I say big deal.
The kid (Ryan) plays for a team called the Ducks, and they aren't even from Oregon. Ryan was drafted second overall, yeah, but where is the mandatory piss poor attitude in the kid that the Ducks require? Where is his desire to maim his opponents? I have yet to see him stomp on one guys skate or run anyone into the boards. How does this guy even get on Burke's radar screen? How does he get the call up, let alone deserve the Calder? He doesn't even understand he is supposed to be a thug to play in Anaheim.
I say that a point-per-game average loses out to being able to say "Clutterbucked" when C-Buck takes a guy off his skates. I say playing for the Ducks by definition loses the Calder for Ryan.
I say:

If Clutterbuck's name was Joe Smith, would there be an uproar for him for Calder?
come on kev, what's the Joeder Cup Trophy?
Hmmm... maybe not, but I guess since it's not Joe Smith, we may never know.
Kevin, if you've watched him for as long as I have, yes. I can safely say, his name has absolutely nothing to do with my madness for the guy. The very fact that I'm not attracted to him and still like him this much kinda says it all. :)
But it certainly helps his case as far as drumming up recognition and attention.
In fact, it kind of irritates me now when the focus is on his name and not his game.
ANYWAY... nice work Buddha. Very funny stuff. :)
Wasn't the focus on his name originally? Maybe not solely, but a large part of it?
Superficially, his name gets him a lot of attention. His game stands alone, however most people don't know it because nobody but Wild fans watch the Wild regularly enough to really understand what he's about.
Well, seems to me the Wild fans do a lot of playing on "Clutterbucked." And he's not the only player in the league who throws a hit, so while outside of Minnesota, he may get more pub because of his name, I'm sure a lot of teams have a player like him.
